Message from the Director

Impington Sixth Form College is unusual, to say the least, and is possibly unique amongst state education providers.  The chance for young people from all over the world to work and socialise together gives tremendous opportunities for broadening cultural horizons, increasing understanding and challenging preconceptions.  We have a good balance between students who come here to take the International Baccalaureate diploma, those who follow the British Advanced Level route and others who are attracted by Impington's superb reputation in the area of the Arts.  We also have a specialist course for students with individual needs who are integrated into the life of the Sixth Form.

The international character of Impington has far reaching implications for you, as a student and extends far beyond just making friends with people from other countries.  We aim to place learning within a broader context and you will have the chance to participate in projects that extend far beyond traditional language exchanges.  Geographers have carried out their field research at our partner school in Poland and will combine with Social Anthropologists to examine ethnical tourism in Zaragoza in Spain.  Students interested in creative writing and art have had their work published in our international literary magazine and students from the arts have performed in Rome, have toured Germany.

The Centre itself is in a separate building on the Impington campus, in pleasant, wooded surroundings only three miles from the centre of Cambridge from which there is a regular bus service.  The Centre has many facilities, a large common room, well equipped study area and reference library and individual study carrels. As you are part of the whole community, you will also be able to use the facilities available to everyone in the college.  These include specialist science laboratories, resource centre, dance studio, gymnasia, swimming pool, and editing suite and a multi-media language facility.

Nevertheless, no matter how good the physical facilities may be, an institution is about the people who are part of it. Our students value the tremendous support and expertise offered by their teachers and we all share a very strong sense of being part of a caring and friendly community. We are in an excellent position to nurture your particular talents and abilities. We want excellent achievement for all our students no matter what path their choose to follow.

If you are prepared to challenge yourself to the full and if the chance to learn in an international environment excites you, as it excites us, then Impington may well be the place for you!
