Attendance Pages

If your child is absent, or you know that your child will be absent, please ring the absence hotline on 200439, or email attendance@impington.cambs.sch.uk. Please let us know by phone or email for everyday your child is absent.

Impington Village College has an attendance target of 93.5% and an actual figure of 93.08%.

Let’s just look for a moment at what this means in practice. If a pupil has an attendance record of 90% that might sound good. What it actually means is half a day missed every week – that’s the equivalent of four whole weeks of lessons in a school year, or half a school year missed over five years.

Why does this matter? Because research shows that 17 missed school days a year equals a drop of one grade at GSCE. The greater the attendance, the greater the achievement.

It also matters because a person’s potential earnings are directly related to their qualifications; a person with no qualifications can expect to earn around £7.44 an hour; a person with GSCE’s can expect to earn around £9.02 per hour and a person with A levels can expect to earn around £10.25 an hour – so going to school does pay!

Parents can help encourage attendance in a number of ways:

  • By talking with their child about school
  • By phoning to tell us why a child is absent
  • By only granting days at home for genuine illness
  • By avoiding taking holidays in school time
  • By praising and rewarding good attendance

If there is a problem, talk calmly to your child and listen to the explanation – there is always an explanation. Talk to us to resolve issues. We may be able to help and support you and your child.

Remember – you are not alone.
